Ice fishing is a very popular activity on Lake Saint-Pierre.

A hole is carved in the ice; a baited hook on a line held in place by a simple lever system (a “brimbale”) starts to bob when a fish bites.

Some fishermen seek shelter from the cold inside small heated shacks, but most prefer to stay outside.

The main species of fish sought by ice fishermen are the Yellow perch, the Northern pike and the Walleye.

In late winter and early spring, people trap muskrat. Some years, this activity can bring in a sizeable second income.
