Great Black-backed Gulls perched on a funnel-shaped net called “verveux”

The funnel-shaped net used by commercial fishermen in shallow water is called a “verveux”. In everyday parlance, people pronounce it “varvo”.

During summer season, sports fishermen take over from commercial fishermen, who usually concentrate most of their activities in springtime.

Sport fishermen seek out Walleye, Sauger, Yellow Perch, Northern Pike, and Brown Bullhead.
