Ducks Unlimited has set up a network of small channels on the commons of Île Dupas that allow for the nesting of ducks and the spawning of fish.

In the Lake Saint-Pierre region, many plots of land are cultivated to produce maize (corn) for feeding livestock. This cereal is harvested in late autumn with the help of a huge combine harvester.

There are still many dairy farms, as well.

The soil of the islands of the archipelago is very rich, thanks to the organic matter deposited there during spring floods. Besides using some as common pastures, many islands are farmed to produce hay and cereals.

Many farmers grow corn for their livestock. This crop also provides food for white-tailed deer, Snow Geese, and Canada Geese that eat directly in the fields.
