Nearly 4,000 large ships use the Saint Lawrence Seaway every year.

The paler line at the centre of the picture corresponds to the site of the overflow weir that is located between Île Ronde and Île Madame. The five overflow weirs of the archipelago gather nearly 40% of the water flowing from Lake Saint-Pierre into the Seaway.

The Port of Sorel-Tracy is open and accessible year round.

Two ferries provide transportation between the south and north shores of the river near Sorel-Tracy and  Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola.

Near Saint-Ours, on the Richelieu River, is located the last lock before reaching the Saint Lawrence River.
