The area downstream from Île du Moine is the best birdwatching site in southern Quebec. Ducks Unlimited has set up managed marshes there.

Lavallière Bay is the largest managed marsh area in Eastern Canada.

At its entrance, the Maison du Marais houses exhibitions on wetlands wildlife (fauna).

A footpath set up with numerous explanatory signs borders the eastern part of this immense marsh.

At the end of the path, where the Bay meets the Yamaska River, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife has installed a bypass near the migratory ladder. It allows fish that spawn in the flood plain to return to the river when the water withdraws.

These odd installations provide nesting platforms for the Black Duck and Mallard.

The Nicolet Migratory Bird Sanctuary is the property of the Department of National Defence, and is located in the southern part of Lake Saint-Pierre. Access to this area is forbidden. In fall, it welcomes many thousands of ducks and Canada Geese.

At Baie-du-Febvre, close to the Nicolet Sanctuary, managed ponds make the observation of many species of ducks possible, including both wading and diving varieties.
